Matariki

On Monday the Junior School and the Allenton Kindergaten came together to celebrate Matariki.
We all presented a song and the Kindy made us a beautiful story about Matariki.

We have learnt that Matariki means small eyes in English. We know that there are 7 stars;
 1 big one and 6 little ones.
The stars disappear for a little time and then come back into the night sky in early June, and they bring a new moon.

If the stars are bright it means that the crops will be good.

It is an important time to be with family looking at the past and to the future.

Waste Busters Visit

We learnt what you can recycle and reuse. Did you know that Ashburton can recycle up to 7 (on plastic) and Christchurch can only do up to 3!!
We reused a tin can to make something beautiful, and we made a poster to take home to remind our parents to RECYCLE.

Patterns

We made patterened ties for our Dad's.
