Buddy Reading with Room 24

Love love love swimming

M and M Maths... but Tara can we eat them too!

Such fun to finish of our Statistics unit. How many different combinations of colours and amount was in each packet of m & m's. Listening to the children's conversations was enlightening. A fantastic three weeks of learning, culminating in connections being made from tally to graph. Love learning

Bullying

Brett Murray joined us today from Australia with an Anti Bullying message.

The children learnt that  bulling is something that happens
ALL THE TIME

Brett gave the children the example of a child in a dark, that is pinched by another child, what should they do?

FLICK THE SWITCH

illuminate the problem. Bullies thrive on keeping adults, teachers, people with authority in the dark.

TELL THE TEACHER

they are not telling tales, if it is something that happens ALL THE TIME.

Interesting facts from the session, were that New Zealand has the highest rate of bullying. Less than 20% of children report bullying. Of that, that is reported...
81% verbal abuse
38% physical abuse

When they children came back to the classroom, they told me that they were champions, and they could  repeat each of the highlighted chants. What did they tell you?

Loving this song! The Alphabet song

The children love singing this song as they transition between word of the day and story writing.

The Journey

Recently some colleagues and I were fortunate to visit Wainoni School, in CHRISTCHURCH. We went along to observe how they utilise S.O.L.O Taxonomy in the classroom. It was truly amazing to watch 5 and 6 year olds owning their learning journey and acknowledging where they were at... Magical. Seeing this inspired me to return to my classroom and employ the theory of S.O.L.O learning. The video above reminded me of the importance of embracing the journey not the destination. Enjoy.
